“It is an ancient Mariner, and he stoppeth one of three...”

I recognize that the literary world is full of clichéd stories about discovering one’s true nature through the construction, restoration or journey of X, Y or Z. While the motif may be tired, there is likely some truth behind those stories and the value that they hold for each of those individuals. So this is my story of personal transformation, redemption and completing the whole – well maybe just the start as I don’t know if there will be a finish.

The task, to fix up a wooden sailboat named Moonbeam that’s in fairly decent condition, get it in the water and start sailing. Nothing more than humans have been doing for centuries on end.

Why do I need a blog? Because this is my bête noire – one of the big black things that sits in the path of my life with its tentacles reaching out to so many of my insecurities, procrastinating tendencies, addictions and likely a leftover childhood trauma or two. I’ve read in another blog on too many occasions to ignore that one of the major steps in personal change is to make your aim public by telling a friend, enlisting colleagues, putting it on Facebook, writing a blog…

So this is my affirmation: Moonbeam will sail again with my hand at the tiller!
